LET'S PRAY

Let's hope and pray dad feels a bit better today.
The staff infection has spread to his check and the side of his neck.
It is painful and is resistant to even the sufa.
The skin around his mouth is already very sore and he has no energy.
He is to go back to the doctor if he is not getting better, Monday.

Our church friends are praying for him. I will go to church myself today.
Our book club meets tonight but we will not go of course. I just hope he is well enough to go to Gracelyn's party on Wed. and especially Leah's grad. on Thrus and Justice's party on Friday.

The one saving grace is that I am feeling good!

GARDENING

Gardening such hard work; exhausting and back-breaking. How does Sandra do it? Now she has a huge pile of dirt to make the back yard perfect. And you have to know the right dirt to buy and so we had to go back and buy the right dirt for dad's box.

Anyway my seeds are planted. I want to grow a few vegtables just to try. I grew up with our vegtable garden in which dad worked very hard too. Even digging it all up in the spring was hard work and Brian would be miserable having to help. I was a weed puller and a grass cutter. Mom never did any gardening and I do not remember flowers except the peonies the neighbors had.

Sandra was born to garden and make it beautiful; she makes the effort to keep learning so that she can make the ideas she has come to life!

I was born to be a believer and to have this desire to express the wonder and joy that faith adds to life. Faith does not free you from all fear or from all pain and suffering. Jesus began his life's work being baptized at the river but was then driven to the wilderness. None of us can escape times when we feel like we are in the wilderness. It is a challenge to keep learning even with what you believe.

Jesus told stories about seeds and rocky ground and beautiful lilies and the fig tree that born no fruit. His life began as a tiny babe just life ours.

He is called Emanuel, God with us!

"Faith in the text [of scripture] is essential to recovering the vibrancy of it."

We see God in all of nature, we see Him in every human being, He speaks to us through the scripture in all the different characters and stories. I am amazed at the writters of scripture; each one seeing things a little differently which supports the truth of what they were trying to express.

Sophisticated scholars want to argue and fictionize scripture. It is sad that so many are influenced by skeptical critics.

Seeds grow mysteriously and faith also has a potential to grow.

CONFESSIONS

I had to confess I washed my cell phone and I feel better the truth is out now.

I read in my book "Called Out Of Darkness" by Anne Rice that she confesses she was a religous child and I could totally relate to those words.
For me my childhood was lived a lot in my immagination and it was easy to believe that Jesus was a friend who you could talk to. I was a dreamer that had my own little world. I was am still am naive.

I have good memories as a child of the freedom we had to play outside with all the other children until it was getting dark. We played a game where you had teams you drew maps and then hid.

I would ride my bike all over town especially on a Sat. or Sun. when I did not have to be home for lunch. One route took me to an area of beautiful homes built on the river bank; each one seemed so grand and perfect with their stately beauty. I dreamed of living there one day because I thought a big home and beautiful garden must make you very happy. I would also ride way out to the Univercity I was in awe of the brick buildings and dream of going there one day. It is good to have dreams!

I would feel this same sense of grandeur when I went to church in a big majestic church filled with lots of people who appeared happy and friendly. I loved the music and dreamed of being in the choir. That was one dream that came true. Music for me has been a way of expressing that deep inner joy that gives life beauty.

I am enjoying reading Anne's book because she talks about her childhood faith in the Catholic faith that was pure and simple. She even loved the service in Latin and when whe returns to her faith finds it hard to adjust to saying the words in English. She grew away from her faith but not from her love of art that she saw in the statues and oramental splendor that awed her as a child.

She was a great thinker and had a desire to learn all about the world. She was full of questions that eventually led her to question her faith. I learned at Sunday school it was a "sin" to be disobedient to your parents and to hold rebellious thoughts would darken your soul. I would feel very bad when I would be angry about the strict rules in our home. It was very important to be home in time for meals and to come to the table washed and clean.

My brother had the rebellious spirit so he would often get in trouble and I would be unnoticed. I find it hard to relate to others who have spiritual doubts because they try to make sense of religion. My doubts have been more an awareness of self-doubt because I always wanted to have a pure heart and live a good, moral and responsible life.

As I read the Bible now I see that the characters were on a spiritual quest that often took them into a world where they battled evil. Most stories we read in our modern books lead us into the same battle where people struggle inwardly to become outwardly better as they face life's disappointments and their own failures.

Is a theological way of looking a life bad?

I confess that I have no desire to try to convert others to my wayof believing; even though for me it is a world of grace and mystery.

VOTER APATHY

This is the topic on the C. B. C. this morning; only about 49% people voted. I know all my friends talked about politics as we had our Bible study luncheon testerday. With such a close victory for Walley Opal in South Delta it seems 2 or 3 votes could have made a difference.

We seem to get really caught up in the American Politics but we have some amazing Canadians, writers as well as politicians, that we should be proud of. I think the problem is we feel so helpless about much of the changes we see going on. The Sun says today the Liberals have changed the bucolic nature of the riding [Tsawwassen] into a industrial conduit. A lot of farmland is now being changed and used for other purposes. Their have been a lot of protest meetings so some of them voted against the Liberals to voice their opinion.

We all get tired of promises of politicans that are not kept but it does seem a little strange to be forced by law to vote. I guess Kenny agrees with it.

Another early morning for me but I will have a rest when dad goes to the doctor, his family doctor, at 11 this morning. Yes, you read right he now agrees he needs some medical advice. His chin is a mess with red bumps.
I am so glad they were able to make room for him today.

We are so fortunate to be able to go to the doctor at no cost and get some of our prescription fees paid.

I also wonder why there is so much spiritual apathy but I imagine the church has also let people down . Religion has caused problems but also been involved in starting schools and churches and helping the poor.

GREEN VERY GREEN

WRONG PICTURE
One thing about the rain it makes everything beautifully green. I like the way the rain drops stay on this plant. The water shed where Kenny likes to walk is looking very green too and the sun shining through is awesome.

Dad has fineshed his planter box and my idea is to try and grow some vegtables by the back door. We went to Home Depot last night to get some liners and dirt and it was freezing cold and windy. Dad also found it very cold on his bike ride; but he went late in the day.

Today I have lunch out with our Bible study group from Colebrook; it's being going for 20 years or more. Then at 5 I have a C.T. lung scan which is just a better look at the lungs than x-ray. Dr. Nolte is being very careful that no cancer comes sneaking in again.

Dad has been looking for his black hat and here it is sitting right on the bed beside the computer. What a great pair! I washed my cell phone but then so did Carol. We do things, or at least, I do without thinking.

We voted but disappointed no change in government. But for many it is good news.
Dad's lip cancer is better but his face is very sore with infection. He is using glarlic and hot compresses, refusing to go to the doctor!
Knowledge is best used when it leads us into experience. Faith invites us to become one into the mysteries of scripture.

THE GOOD OLD DAYS

Kenny was always the funniest.

LOSING
It was very quiet on Scott Road last night because losing is heart-breaking. But it is certainly one lesson we have to learn in life. No matter what we dream about or plan for things do not happen the way we would like.

It is interesting that the first story in the Bible is about blaming and when a game is lost, a team is defeated, a battle lost there has to be some one to blame. The paper says today "I let my teammates down" which was Luongo's first reaction having let in 7 goals. I am sure that each player would be disappointed in their own efforts.

I firmly believe that there is too much emphases in life in being right and in winning. I know I had expectations as a wife and mother that would have been built upon my experiences growing up. Children were expected to be obedient and although we had great freedom in our playing and exploring our world I had to be home in time for meals. Not only be home in time but clean and tidy before I sat down.

In the afternoon I could take off on my bike and ride all over town. I would go to richer areas, or out to the Univercity, or out to the country I would ride for hours and be in my own little world. I was a dreamer and although I played many sports like volley-ball, basket-ball and took part in
sports day I soon learned that I had to accept losing. Second or third place never seemed good enough so I would always try hard to do my best.

I did not have a strong competitive spirit but I practiced hard and was never quite good enough. My biggest disappointment in my childhood was not being able to sing in the school choir. I tried out every year and was always sad when I did not make it. There was a group of about 20 of us who would be sent to a special classroom while the others would be particapating in choir practice. I was born with a love of singing and a love of music and now I am happy with that.

Looking back on our family no one was the "badest" you all took turns.
