THE DRIVE

Is there an inner journey that happens as we travel along our journey of life?
This was our drive to Langley on Saturday.  There is green grass around which sets off the brown spots and barren trees and puddles of water.  It felt good to be driving out in the country away from row after row of houses.  Not that I would want to live there but makes for an enjoyable drive.

Family day was quiet but full of past memories for me.  Lots of good times. Had a good laugh at funny stories on e-mail, thanks Jane and video's on face book thanks Nancy Lou.

Dadas back doing his walk and me, I just never stop.  Good for both of us.

Reading now about what the Muslim point of view of Abraham's journey is,  the view from one orthodox point of view.  The writer Murshid Saadi Shakur Chishi believes that there is an inner dimension to our journey through life.

His commentaries ask "If all these characters were a part of me and of my inner self, what would they be saying or asking of me?"
What does this story have to say about the relationships with others in  my life, or about my community or society to those who feel unlike us?  If it were judgment Day how would we act rightly?"

"The goal is to take on the image of the divine we took on at creation, an image that asks us not to be perfect but rather to be nothing less than completely human, embracing all of the qualities of remembrance, forgetfulness, light (knowing) and darkness (mystery) that Allah does."

Life constantly presents us with opportunities to "know" our full  self more and more completely.

"Next to knowing when to seize an opportunity, the most important thing in life is to know when to forego an advantage."  -Benjamin Disraeli
