THE WEATHER

P4260945
Early morning looks like the weather could be rainy or sunny.  Rain was forecast and when it gets sunny dad points out the weather man or girl was wrong again.  He loves to point this out.

It seems very cold today and working outside does not appeal to either of us.  What a difference a day makes not only in the weather but in how we are feeling.  Both of us   feel a bit down in the dumps.  Both of us have had a busy week and we have accomplished a lot so that is important.

Sunday we plan to go to church and afterwards we have our study group about " God".
this time a very serious question.  Is there a right or wrong answer?
If you are a fundamentalist the answer is simple but the problem is this can produce the kind of Christians we also see on the T.V. and they turn people away from the simple truth.  They are uptight and self-righteous and know that they know all the right answers.

So we enter another discussion looking for light and truth which can change our heart
and give us insight not only into "God" but to our own humanity.

Our goal is not to have a blind faith but one that is reasonable.

If God does exists is it in a form beyond our comprehension?  Our world does exist within certain laws that have brought everything from planets and stars and intelligent life into being.

Our question is can we call "God" A Being?  Does our sense of purpose flow from our conceptions of this being.?  I like it when things are simple and take into account both the emotional and intellectual side of things and then have the courage to live by my beliefs.

Good fun with good friends!   Also Cathy and Glen dropped in last night so we had a good visit.

Prayers are helping!

A cold wet day for those going to the sun run today. They should call it the "rain run". What is it dad needs help with? 3 and 6 days to go. Sandra

Cutting a big 4 by 4 into 4 legs for Leah's coffee table.

Too bad it is a miserable day for the Sun Run I remember how exciting it was to go with you and Mary.

Hopefully time goes quickly for you now.

If God exists is it in a form beyond our comprehension. Answer: yes. That is both a good thing, because it means that human life is largely about peeling the onion of ignorance that surrounds God, but also a bad thing, because it means that evil people can (and often do) claim that God exists in their image and they can commit any crime in God's name.

Here is another question for the group: why do intolerant and evil religious men (whether Hindu, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, etc.) always think it is necessary to have beards?

Rick

And I think Jesus and his message of love and acceptance and his scepticism towards priests, scribes and religious law was and is a real step forward in peeling the onion of ignorance around God. Indeed, most religious figures have contributed to this peeling process, although always the hierarchies and bureaucracy that come later put doctrinal rules in place of real insight.

As you know, I think that, in a thousand years or so, God will found be a strange amalgam of a formula from physic, music, and a few other things. God will be the strange combination of greatest artistic work ever known and a self propelling mathematical formula constantly bursting into life.

I wish I would be there to take part of the discovery.

If Ghandi once said, "there is no bad way to god," referring to all religions having the same basic insight into the eternal, then I would say, "there is no path but towards the core of God". Meaning that there is no contradiction between art and science and religion. Indeed, to think otherwise will soon (in, say, 200 years or so) be seen as incomprehensible as slavery or the concept of a flat earth seems to us now.

Rick

It would be a real mistake to think that I am just saying, "the dry logic of science will prevail over silly concepts of God," although I suppose that is partly true. Science, at some level, is always far more about beauty than anything else. We, we humans, always eventually recognize scientific insight because it is wonderfully simple and beautiful. This process will continue. Science will change as this continues. The distance between art/religion/religion will disappear ... they will merge, one will not obliterate the other.

Rick

Good Sunday morning Beth. It is blustery and cold day here too. A storm is moving in bringing lots of rain and even colder temperatures this week. So much for spring! Daily highs will be in the single digits.

The perennial questions about God and who is God? It should be an interesting discussion group!

My faith has changed a lot over the last couple of years...something I never thought would happen after almost 70 years of believing the same thing.

Our minister visited us a few days ago and brought a lovely begonia from the Easter Garden at church. I talked to her a bit about my changing faith,..well it is still there, but in the background, for now. I think it is a metamorphosis of some kind. I have been exploring other faiths too. So we will see where it goes!

Well, I hope you had a good walk early this morning and look forward to my walk with Bella and Max. Yesterday we walked for 40 minutes and never saw a car or a person. I like that! Soon we will be overrun with people all over the place. I like solitude.

Love, Nancy

I find Rick's comments very interesting ...he sees things in a much different way..a lot simpler,I would think.

I would be most pleased to attend your discussion group, if I lived nearby. Your church too.
