DID YOU KNOW?

P3130224
This is some questions for Ben and Morgan.
Ben we were so sorry to hear about your nasty fall onto the gym floor hitting your head and giving you strange pictures.  What a scary experience. Did you know the brain is like plastic and very good at healing itself.  Since you are young and healthy I pray you will heal quickly!  I thought if you were home today here are some questions for you about my life.
Did you know:
I was a very good basketball player but made one mistake scoring on my own net,
Growing up I had no T.V., no phone, no refrigerator, no furance except when the coal man came and delivered it through a basement window.
The ice man came with a wagon and horses to deliver ice for our ice-box.  I would run out to meet him hoping for a chuck of ice to suck on.
My family did not own a car and I got car sick the first ride I had in a car.  My friend's dad had to stop and let me out so I could throw up.  I rode the rest of the way with my head out the window.

Teachers were very strict when I went to school and you could get the strap which was awfully painful.  I never did but I had to sit in the corner with my face to the wall once when I was talking when I should not have been.

My school had two doors one for the girls and one for the boys and on the playground we played on our own side.  The boys had a rink on their half which I was not allowed on when there were any boys around, so sometimes I stayed late after school and would sit on the steps and put my very cold ice skates on.  After I had skated and put my boots on they were icy cold and then I would walk about seven blocks home in the dark.

After school we would listen to the radio to hear the news from Germany believing we were winning the war.  I am so thankful we did but it is so sad to hear even today of young men getting killed in war.  I HOPE YOUR GENERATION WILL DO BETTER and finally bring peace into a crazy world.

We had no candies or chocolate bars, no ice cream or butter, an apple was our treat!  This was because it was wartime.

One of our favorite things to do was to ride out of town to some haunted houses and dare each other to sneak in  a broken window to a dark, creepy room full of cobwebs and spiders andI am sure there were ghosts hanging around too.

Talked to Ben and Morgan on the phone and Ben sounds his chipper self and Morgan said he was fine it was only a small concussion.  Morgan has not finished drawing a picture of me for her brownie badge.  I too was a brownie and we had very good leaders and I went with my friends.

Also talked to Mary and she is in good spirits even though their roof is leaking.

Had a good visit with Jim and he showed me pictures of when he was an Earth Angel a rival gang to the Hell's angels.  Three of his best friends where shot and for some unknown reason they missed Jim.

Today we will look for a computer place and the have my M.R.I. at Jim Patterson's place at 5:30.  I will be packing to get  ready for our big adventure leaving early Sat. morning.  I will not be blogging I do not think.  We return on Tuesday.

Did you not know have you not heard God is good and on your side!

Have a great week-end!

What an interesting story about your youth Beth. I hope your family save our story about when you were young. Perhaps Larry should write his too!

I really enjoyed reading about how things were when you were a child. It sounded a lot like Carl's childhood......except they didn't have electricity either...just coal oil lamps and in later years a generator that they used for a few hours a day.

Did you grow up on a farm?

I am 70 and had more amenities than you or Carl....but we lived in Winnipeg. We didn't have television though.....just the radio and Maggie Muggins.
We also had the cottage, here at Victoria Beach with no power and an outhouse! Loved those days.

I wish you good results from your MRI....I had one a couple of years ago and it sure was noisy. My results were good.

I am teaching music today and helping the kids at church paint a drawing I made of Noah and the Ark...it will be so much fun!

I hope you are all packed and well on your way to your holiday ......have a wonderful time!

Love, Nancy
