THE BREVITY OF LIFE

My newest flower in the basket!

Once again we have been reminded of the brevity and unpredictability of life., and to reminded to  making every moment count.

Today everything seemed to get turned around as dad headed off to the dentist and I planned to go for a walk.  I saw Linda parked outside our house while this man was loading up his truck and trailer with a lot of furniture and mattresses and tires etc.  I really should have taken a picture.  Both his truck and the trailer were pilled high with stuff but he did clean out the garage.

Linda has moved into the Gillford area and this has been a stressful time for her.  I asked her about her parents being able to stay in their home right to the last and she thought they should have moved into a care home but her dad has dead against it.  In the last 5 years of his life he was angry with life and all he could not do.

When we went to bed the night before we could hear banging noises from the wind blowing against the house.  Dad had a quick look around but could not see anything causing the noise. I put ear plugs in and went to bed.  I found it even harder to hear dad in the morning until I realized they were still in.

I am reading about Samuel Johnson who authored the first English language dictionary.  He also was a prolific writer and wrote sermons for others but never gave one.  He valued honesty and admitted that he wrestled with his own doubts and fears.  He was known for his acts of charity even though he was not a rich man.

He wrote about the brevity of life and living in the present moment. He was called a spiritual gladiator with wisdom for others and the depth of his profound writings.

During the last few years of his life he found peace and even experienced a healing both physical and spiritual.

"Jesus came to give to each one of us the gift of abundant life."

None of us know the future but I believe that the abundant life also includes courage and strength in the adversity and brevity of this life!

The new kitten is fitting in just fine, the momma cat is ignoring her.

It was very noisy at our house too, but thankfully my new garden was still intact in the morning.

Life is too long at times and too short at others, or time at least. This week is dragging but the week Mary and Stephen and the kids are all here will fly by in a blink.
